The FDA’s Foreign Supplier Verification Program (FSVP) places an obligation on US importers of food and beverages to verify that their foreign suppliers have in place Hazard Analysis & Risk Based Preventative Controls (HARPC) for Human Food. HARPC encompasses far more in the way of food safety assessment and control than a traditional HACCP plan.
The final deadline for compliance with FSVP is 19 March 2018.
The FDA has begun to conduct inspections of the procedures, systems and records of US importers and of their foreign suppliers.
Foreign suppliers found to be non-compliant with FSVP regulations risk serious problems with detention or refusal of entry of their goods into the USA.
